Weston A. Price Foundation to FDA: Soy is NOT a Health Food

Does this sound familiar to you?

“Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 25 grams of soy protein a day may reduce the risk of heart disease.”

DON’T fall for it!

Since 1999 all manufacturers of soy products have been able to label them “heart healthy”.

A petition has been submitted to the FDA - Food and Drug Administration - By the “Weston A. Price Foundation”, which you most probably know is a non-profit nutrition education foundation. The FDA has been asked to change a ‘rule’ that currently allows soy protein to carry a “heart disease health claim“.

The Weston A. Price Foundation’s 64-page petition makes a VERY interesting read. The petition was filed in response to the FDA’s request for public comment on the issue.

Officially the petition was filed by Sally Fallon, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation and Kaayla Daniel, the lead author of the petition said:

“We have filed this petition because there was never a sound basis for a soy health claim and the heavy marketing of soy as a ‘miracle food’ has put American men, women and children at risk.”

The documents longstanding concern in the scientific community, including the FDA’s own Laboratory for Toxicological Research regarding soy’s possible role in:

>> Carcinogenesis
>> Thyroid disease
>> Reproductive health problems including infertility
>> AND other illnesses

The Winston A. Price Foundation also claims that the evidence on soy protein and heart disease is “contradictory and inconsistent, and no standard of scientific agreement has been met.”
