Vitamin C is Water Soluble: Choose Time Release Supplements

Vitamin C is a nutrient as well as a powerful antioxidant. It is required in small amounts to allow a range of essential metabolic reactions in the body. Vitamin C is a water soluble Vitamin and cannot be stored in the body, it is passed out during urination, therefore has to be taken on a daily basis. I would definitely recommend a time release supplement for optimum effectiveness, as well as one that contains the complete C complex of bioflavonoids ( biologically active compound found in citrus and other fruits), hesperidin (Source: citrus fruits. Use: treatment of capillary disease), and rutin ( compound found in citrus: a bioflavonoid found mainly in buckwheat that can be taken as a dietary supplement for the treatment of varicose veins and other conditions).
Vitamin C is one of the most widely taken supplements, being equally important to animals as it is to humans. It is vital in the production and formation of collagen (connective protein: a fibrous protein found in skin, bone, and other connective tissues) as well as being an important factor in the protection of the fat soluble Vitamins A and E and the fatty acids from oxidation.
Collagen is the most omnipresent matter in the body because it is the most plentiful of the fibres found in connective tissues which gives our body’s shape and supports our organs. It is responsible in the development of collagen which is important for growth and repair of body tissue cells, gums, blood vessels, bones and teeth.
Vitamin C is very important for the formation of collagen as it is everywhere in the body. Here are some examples:
=> Connective tissue of skin, bones, teeth, ligaments, tendons, fascia and organ capsules.
=> Connective tissue of organs such as liver, kidneys, spleen etc
=> The layer that separates the skeletal and the smooth muscle cells.
=> Cartilage
It has been well known that Vitamin C prevents and cures the disease scurvy as well as being beneficial in the treatment of anaemia as it helps the body’s absorption of iron. It can support in the prevention of heart disease. And here is another interesting fact you may not know about, Vitamin C assists your body in the use of body fat. It uses fat as a fuel source, to ‘melt away’ fat during rest as well as during exercise.
What else it can do for you:
=> Heal your wounds, burns and bleeding gums
=> Speed up healing after surgery
=> Supports the prevention of many types of viral and bacterial infections
=> Acts as a natural laxative
=> Helps in decreasing blood cholesterol
=> Lowers incidences of blood clots in veins
=>> Lowers Blood-pressure
=> Aid in treatment and prevention of the common cold
=> Reduces the effects of many allergy producing substances
=> Extends life by enabling protein cells to hold together
Vitamin C is used up more rapidly under stress conditions. Smokers as well as older persons have a greater need for Vitamin C. For example, each cigarette destroys 25mg of Vitamin C. City dwellers should definitely up their intake, as carbon monoxide destroys Vitamin C. And you also need extra C, if you are taking the pill. Water, cooking, heat, oxygen smoking (see above) are enemies to Vitamin C.
You should be able to get all of your Vitamin C from a healthy and balanced, no junk food diet and you find Vitamin C is especially found in citrus fruits, berries, green and leafy vegetables such as spinach, red bell peppers, snow peas, tomatoes, cauliflower, potatoes, sweet potatoes, kiwi, mango, orange, grapefruit juice, strawberries. And make sure they are organic!
