Trans Fats are Chemical Poison

Trans Fats are Chemical Poison

Trans fats are poison, responsible for around 100,000 deaths in the USA annually. They are produced by mixing certain liquid organic chemicals with industrial catalysts such as palladium or platinum to change the chemical bonds. The changed version solidifies and though useful for industry, is apparently deadly for humans. Just like asbestos, these chemicals were once held in high esteem for their abundant benefits infiltrating into everyday products.

Butter and lard to a great extent have been replaced by trans fats in commercial bake products and (junk) fast foods. Those in favour of trans fats (the ones who want the big bucks) say they lower food costs, allowing poor people better access to french fries and other cheap and nasty junk foods. They also extend shelf life - saving someone money! Those against trans fats say the problem is that trans fats cause a lot of heart disease and deaths.

Federal and state agencies are hoping to regulate the use of trans fats - removing them from the environment will take great will, met wit resistance from industry all the way, as there are obviously big bucks to be lost here.

You wouldn’t think that there would be any objections to this, especially as the chemical has been found to be detrimental to health. Trans fats were created in a laboratory, like an abomination - trying to make a better dietary fat out of plant oils by irradiating them with energy.

Trans fats have largely replaced butter and lard in commercial bake goods and fast foods. Advocates say they lower food costs, allowing poor people better access to french fries and other junk foods. They extend shelf life, too, which saves somebody money. Opponents say the only problem with this convenient scenario is that trans fats cause a lot of heart disease.

Americans don’t take lightly to bans, as was shown by the mockery pointed at New York City’s plan to eliminate trans fats from its 20,000 restaurants. To be heard were things such as infringement of personal liberties and the rise of food Nazis.

However, this new proposal is no ban on food, as restaurant associations and food conglomerates would like people to believe - this is a ban on a manmade synthetic, unnatural, unreal, chemical, extremely bad for you food additive. Also - this isn’t about personal choice. This is the food producers choice. Like artificial sweeteners, MSG etc trans fat is something added to a product purposefully to produce a desired effect.
