Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Bodywork Facilitates the Road to Healing

By Viola Woolcott

Lomi Lomi is one of the most profound forms of massage, being flowing and nurturing as well as a deep. It is based on a powerful and beautiful tradition and is an ancient shamanic rite of passage. Originally it was designed to enlighten the being in the physical body. It is a art of healing, a sacred practise which incorporates movements, breath, dance, caring for the self , the power of intention and presence.

Massage time!

Lomi Lomi simplifies the process of your body’s innate ability to heal. The Hawaiian temple bodywork aligns the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies. It renews your authentic, effortless connection with spirit as well as connecting deeply with your own essence and healing energies of nature.

It helps to have an understanding of the Hawaiian philosophy called Huna as well as how the philosophies of Huna relate to bodywork and healing and to understand the depth of Lomi Lomi massage. One of the alternate names for Lomi Lomi is “Loving Hands” massage as it works gently but deeply into the muscles with flowing, continuous strokes which completely nurture the body, relaxing the entire being, assisting in letting go of old beliefs, patterns and behaviours that have caused limitations and which are all stored in the cells and memory banks of our body. Generally people think of our “programming” as being stored in our minds. But this is not the case. In fact, our “programming” is stored within the cells of our body and therefore an important part of the massage and associated healing is the technique. Much of the treatment is done by love, with the practitioners focus being on the client to enable him/her being deep and complete and it simply lets you be in the moment.

When you are not in harmony with yourself, you start ‘suffering’ with physical pain, mental pain, emotional pain or even spiritual pain. You become ill. Illness is a state of tension. The body resists, which eventually blocks energy movement. We become ‘stagnant’, therefore toxic. I look at things in terms of energy flow. An idea, a belief, a pattern as well as a behaviour can block energy flow and so can muscle tension. Hawaiian Lomi Lomi can aid in releasing those blockages and at the same time lead the energy into a new direction. The bodywork facilitates healing on a mental, emotional, physical and spiritual level. I view all aspects of the body as one, meaning that I believe that the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual are all part of the same, the “whole” self! When the healing process starts, it does not just affect on one level, it affects all levels. Stress and tension are relieved. Blood and lymph flow assisted. Elimination of wastes and toxins stimulated. Lomi Lomi facilitates the road to healing.

Relaxing & Rejuvenating Body Treatments

Usually the treatment commences with a stillness between masseuse and recipient with the masseuse placing her hands gently resting on the clients back, quietly saying a blessing and asking for the needed healing to take place during the treatment. The client may be asked to to set their own intention for any particular healing they like to receive. No two massages will ever be the same. There is no set or sequence, as the masseuse works very intuitively with the client in fluid, rhythmic motions using the hands as well as the forearms. Sometimes different parts of the body are treated at the same time like one arm and the other hand could be working on the opposite hip. As it is extremely difficult for the brain to focus on more than one area at once, it assists the recipients body to totally relax and a deep sense of harmony is achieved. The priority is loving the body to return it to harmony, peace and balance.

Energy also gets blocked in the joints according to Huna philosophy. Gentle rotations as well as gentle stretches may also be incorporated to aid in the release of tensions and to assist energy flow. Sometimes the masseuse hums during a number of movements as the vibrating and amplifying energy also aids in the release of blockages as a result.

Combining breath work with dance work are also important and necessary aspects of Lomi Lomi. The hula dance movements assist the energy flow both within the masseuse and the client and supports in keeping the energy at highest levels.

In some cases the client could experience an emotional release as during the treatment negative emotions are shifted as well as negative beliefs and other “stuff” that has been stored in our cells as well as our memory banks in our bodies. The healing effects can go on and have long lasting effects after the treatment.

Everything seeks harmony - everything seeks love. Return your body to harmony, peace and balance
