By Viola Woolcott
It has been discovered that most cases of MRSA are due to inadequate hospital procedures and as much as we would like to avoid going into hospital, there are times when it is unavoidable.
Considering the many of hospital-acquired infections are preventable, so are the thousands of medical mistakes done due to human error or even criminal negligence.
Various hospital bacterial strains on your skin, as well as in your respiratory and genitourinary tracts, you can get within hours of admission, which could be prevented with a good standard of hygiene. In healthy people, the majority of these bacteria cause little harm.
A variety of infections can be triggered off when these pathogens enter your body due to injury or broken skin and could be life threatening as our compromised immunity is already under attack. These strains of bacteria known to be particularly infectious and due to the rise of bacterial resistance, with the majority immune to commonly prescribed antibiotics. Whether appropriate or not, the over reliance on antibiotic treatments as a solution to every day ailments has dramatically worsened the situation.
It has not been possible yet for us to rely on the healthcare system to maintain infection control measures and by exploring a number of proven alternatives, learning about our pathogenic enemies, finding out how medical blunders arise and being aware of preventative medicine, we can improve our prospects as well as protect ourselves.
Lets face it - hospitals are hothouses for disease causing organisms. We don’t have to surrender ourselves to chance, when the time comes.
