Hope, The Body And Mind Connection

Hope, The Body And Mind Connection

By Viola Woolcott

I believe that hope is one of the most important state of feeling, an essential emotion we need to experience. For the sick it is the key to good health. For the academic and athletics the indicator for performance. Hope is the best predictor of a meaningful existence.

Hopeful people are likely to get more from the world, as they are more motivated, more resilient, more open, more trusting, more forward going, more ‘risky’, more energetic, more focused - in return it makes them even more hopeful.

It is a way of being, a skill you can acquire. You can cultivate it as well as nourishing it. It isn’t something you have or you don’t have. Or maybe something you are born with, or born into because of perfect upbringing or maybe even living in the perfect circumstances. Hope is a motivational construct allowing us to believe in our desired results and strategies as well as our conceived goals. It gives our life purpose, maintains our intimate bonds and mirrors our depths of mind-body connection.

The most powerful predictor of well-being is hope, which is most necessary for the aging process and performance. Hopeful people pay more attention to their physical care, they enjoy more self-esteem and they help others to succeed with their own way of thinking.

Hope influences our expectations for survival and health, it is also a protector against anxiety about death and dying. It supports and strengthens our immune system as well as our general health. By being hopeful, you become grateful and therefore you experience something that brings you happiness. There is strong evidence that hope is associated with patience, charity, faith and gratitude and related to self-confidence.

In the presence of adversity, a hopeful attitude allows the individual to keep a healthy and natural internal environment. Hope changes darkness into light, as it supports you from within.

Where there is life - there is hope.
