Sure it is!! I just don’t only mean white or brown sugar, but also corn syrup, maple syrup, fructose, honey – you name it, everything that makes anything sweet is sugar! But don’t we just love that candy bar, chocolate, yoghurt, that glass of cold, sweet coke, and yes, even that lovely, crunchy awesome looking bread. We even go out of our way sometimes to get it?

Sugar makes us sick!!!

I thought this is worth posting and sharing. VERY interesting about phantom limbs and the ‘mirror procedure’. So if you like to understand why limbs that have been amputated are still hurting, here it is very well explained by Ramachandran.

The brain is complex. Always dealing with uncertainty. What we perceive isn’t always what’s out there. The only access we have is through our sensory perception and really, our brain can only rely on our experience. We have choice and by putting ourselfes in a position of the watcher we may just get a better understanding.

Amazing talk about childhood/adulthood perception. WELL worth the time to watch it!!

Despite the many efforts people put in to losing weight, there are some people who still continue to struggle with weight loss. One reason for people not being able to lose weight is their unawareness of foods that actually cause them to gain weight rather than lose it.

For example, many people eat fresh fruit and garden salad as an alternative to eating fast food or fatty food. While fresh fruits and veggies are a wonderful addition to a person’s diet, the salad dressing that one uses may actually be harmful and cause weight gain rather than stop it.

Salad dressings more times than not, contain certain food additives for the purpose of making their shelf life last longer and to make them taste better. These food additives can be harmful and outweigh the goodness of the fresh fruit and vegetables in the salad, making the salad harmful.

So what are these additives that are in the salad dressings? First, is the notorious MSG additive also known as monosodium glutamate, disodium guanylate, and disodium inosinate. This is known to cause such health problems as kidney stones, nausea, headaches, burning sensations, and obesity. “How does this cause obesity?” you might ask. Well the additive does not allow your brain to receive the signal from your stomach that it is full, causing overeating. MSG also causes your pancreas to produce insulin. When this happens our blood sugar drops, causing us to be hungrier faster. That is why many people find themselves hungry after recently eating. This is not good news to someone who is trying to maintain a healthy weight or lifestyle.

A second harmful food additive in salad dressings are preservatives. These are added for the purpose of making the product’s shelf life last longer and for making it taste better. These are also found in canned fruits and vegetables. This is why we should always choose fresh fruits and vegetables over frozen or canned. While preservatives are good for the people selling these products, they are not good for the people buying them. These preservatives have been known to cause skin allergies/problems, kidney damage, and aggravated asthma problems.

Artificial sweeteners are also added to the salad dressing. Heavily used corn syrup sweeteners, in past studies have been revealed to contain some mercury.

Finally we arrive at the thickening gums that are put into the salad dressing. Many of these vegetable gums are natural, yet some like Xanthan and Guar have been known to cause headaches, diarrhea, and other stomach problems.

So now that we know about these harmful substances being put into not only our salad dressings, but into other foods that we eat as well, what should we do about it? First of all, as mentioned before, only use fresh fruits and vegetables in your salad. Next, make your own salad dressing. It is not as hard as you may think. There are plenty of recipes online that you can choose from that use all natural and healthy ingredients. If you don’t have time to make your own dressing then carefully look at the ingredients in the products you buy. Though I must warn you, sometimes all the stuff they put in there is not easy to find or understand.

So be cautious my friends and think wisely next time you are shopping for groceries. We are given only one body, and we must take care of it. Caring for yourself now leads to healthier and happier life later.

When I was a young child, my grandmother made me gargle warm water with salt in it when I had a sore throat. She did know how to handle most every day ‘illnesses’ the old fashion way.

Most of us know that a sore throat is an inflammatory response of the infected tissues. The salt helps draw out the excess fluids and therefore temporarily decrease the swelling and the pain it causes.

So when you are dealing with a sore throat and before you reach out for the over counter drugs or prescibed antibiotics, try to gargle with 1 tablespoon of salt to 8 oz (200ml) of salty water. The solution is anti-septic.

Keep in mind that you are treating the symptoms — not the illness. The relief is instant and if you try it at the onset, you may find that the salt gargle removes the cause of the sore throat.
