Fear of Silence | What if Things Never Change?

Fear of Silence | What if Things Never Change?

By Viola Woolcott

Most of us fear silence and I‘d be lying if I said I hadn’t in the past.

When you quiet down your own internal chatter, we start to worry about what will pop up in our minds.

You ask yourself questions like “What if things never change?“, “Why is it that life is so unfair?”, “What if I won’t get what I strive to achieve?”, “Why ME?”. We can keep pushing away all of the thoughts that scare and frighten us if we just keep pushing ahead, but constantly ignoring these thoughts, these feelings isn’t very productive.

There comes a point in your life, where this “Breaking Point” shows up in strained relationships, depression, fatigue as well as other major health concerns.

Most of the times it helps when you add short periods of relaxation as well as silence to your every day routine. It takes the edge off of those fearful, frightening thoughts and they no longer hold the power they used to. It also improves your physical as well as emotional health.

It only takes five minutes to stop whatever it is you are doing, to focus on your breath coming in and out of your body and just “To Be”. Without any force, any thoughts that go through your mind gently float away. If you find it difficult to totally empty your mind, choose a word or a phrase to focus on. Once you get more used to finding the silence within you, allow yourself lengthening the time that you spend in quiet and notice how it makes you feel as you allow yourself the experience.
