Choose to become Healthy, Agile, Fit, Disease and Pain Free

By Viola Woolcott

What is it I need to do to become healthy? Or live a long, pain-free life? What do I need to do to increase my energy levels? How do I lose weight? Or how do I stop getting sick?

To simply live a long life isn’t enough. We want to live a life that is long, enjoyable, healthy and active to the end. Research of the disease control centers have predicted that this is not the way the lives of the majority will be. Americans will be spending their final years in nursing homes, medicated and not being able to care for themselves. Now is the time that we must make some smart choices to determine the path our mental and physical health will take.

To become healthy, agile, fit as well as pain-free, you do not need to spend hours of training and suffering under a strict diet. We can all have great health and enjoy it. The first thing we need to understand is that healthy as well as being fit is our natural state and that our body’s are equipped to prevent and fight most of diseases. It will function properly and perfectly, given the right fuel in the right environment, as cells will proliferate. Foreign, mutated cells will be recognised and destroyed. Damaged cells will be repaired and you will feel filled with energy!

>> Water has to be your choice of drink
>> your diet should be healthy as well as balanced
>> Get adequate rest and manage your stress levels
>> determine and than avoid toxins in your food as well as the environment
>> exercise should be your first love
>> enjoy plenty of sunshine

Whether your later years are marked by disease, dependence, and maybe lack of mobility will be determined if you make some simple decisions in your everyday life will. Wouldn’t it be nice to be travelling in your eighties and horsing around with your great grandchildren through your nineties?

Substances in the foods we eat as well as the environment around us cause oxidation and the breakdown of our cells as our bodies are constantly challenged by free radicals. If you enjoy a diet that is rich in antioxidants, it will support your body in neutralising these free radicals as they occur. Antioxidants are vital as they protect from cellular damage that these free radicals can cause i.e cancer, aging as well as a large number of diseases. Your diet should include a variety of whole fruits and vegetables (possibly Organic), as they deliver the best antioxidant protection by far.

Foods that you eat should be organically grown, without the use of any pesticides and herbicides and it should not be genetically modified (GM). I don’t eat meat, but should you be a meat eater, you should insist on animals brought up on natural/organic diets. Fish should be free of pollutants. Refined sugars as well as processed starches should be limited or even avoided. Water should be your number one drink and it should be plenty, fresh and purified.

Loss of muscle mass and bone density are a common ‘side effect’ of aging. Studies show that resistance exercises increase muscle size and strengthening of bones as well as increasing stamina, reducing fat and rejuvenating the hormone system. Shorter, but more intense workouts as a controlled form of exercise are favoured.

It is vital that to reduce stress from your life. Make a list of things/situations/people that are adding to your stress or are aggravating you. Study your list and than make a plan to get rid or radically reduce each of them over a period of time. It works!!

Brain cells communicate with each other through chemicals that are known as neurotransmitters. Your brain is a muscle that gets stronger the more you exercise it. The exercise I am talking about is exercises like word games, learning another language, journaling, working on a business or even a hobby actively and there are always crossword puzzles.

To function properly most of us need at least six hours of sleep. Some of us may find the energy to make it through the day on four, but they will find that if they keep it up for too long, their health will suffer. You should sleep in a cool, dark room and your rest should be uninterrupted to get the full benefits of the refreshing effects of sleep. Some people claim that every hour they sleep before midnight is worth two hours of sleep after midnight, which has to do with the natural biorhythm.

Disease and damage is largely based on the lifestyle we lead, the choices we make on a daily basis.
